This summer we had the pleasure of attending the Pioneer Network conference in Denver, Colorado, an event that brings together like-minded people who are interested in culture change and innovative ideas for care. One of our team's favourite parts of this event was a fashion show put on by Janska which featured models from a local elder living campus: Christian Living Community. The event was a hit for both models and attendees, showing off pieces that challenge the mold of traditional adaptive clothing by focusing on style in addition to comfort. According to the demonstrations by the models and the quick outfit changes they made for the fashion show, the clothes truly were easy to change into and out of with ease.There was everything from day wear to outerwear, each item more beautiful than the last. One thing that was apparent was that the women were truly proud to be wearing this clothing and their confidence exemplified this.
We were inspired by Janska's ability to make a product that not only gave the wearer dignity by making it easy to use, but also making a beautiful product that anyone would be proud to wear. As is the belief in person centred care, the person is the first priority; it is important to honour that in every aspect of care, including when it comes to clothing choices.
