The program will supply participants with a 'toolkit' to enhance their quality of person centred dementia care through understanding the importance of life history, preference and autonomy, it will build the skills and knowledge of participants to apply a person centred lens to providing care and communicating with all aspects of care partners.

To further strengthen learning, upon completion of each bi-weekly lesson, students will be encouraged to try interventions and information from the course 'on for fit' before returning to the live classroom to discuss and strategize effectiveness and build problem-solving. Dementia: Understanding the Journey, through its delivery method and course content, creates leaders in person centred dementia care, thus providing a better world for those being cared for.

How Dementia: Understanding the Journey Unfolds

The course, based over 27 hours of learning, involves workshop-style sessions and practical application and assignments to be completed on the job. Delivered via online platform Zoom meeting, reflection of the exercises is also integrated into the weekly curriculum to better understand, empower staff to take leadership, and evoke critical thinking. This platform allows students and the instructor to interact with one another through video, audio, and a “chat feature”. Students will be able to view a shared screen during the instruction period, while still able to use the audio and chat feature to be involved throughout the class. Technical and administrative support will be available both during instruction time and throughout the week to assist students.

At the beginning of each week, students will be sent the meeting link, any required reading and the powerpoint presentation for the upcoming class. Upon registration of the course, students will receive an intake call in which they are assisted in setting up this platform.
