A look forward to 2020

It is hard to believe we have made it to the end of another year and even harder to believe we are in the last day of the decade. This is a time to reflect on the events of the past year and look forward to our goals for the next. At Person Centred Universe, our motto has always been that in everything we do, we want to ensure we are making the world a better place for people living with dementia. We have had the opportunity to connect and work with many people and organizations over the past year who are also working toward this same goal. From our own backyard, to the greater global community, we have been privileged to come across countless change makers who make a huge difference in the lives of people living with dementia.

As we begin to think of our New Year’s Resolutions, fill out our fresh calendars and planners, it is important to ask ourselves what we want to accomplish in the next year. How do we want to fill our days? How many of these resolutions and plans work towards making the world a better place for others? We want to follow the lead of our friends at the Pioneer Network and make the resolution to change the culture of aging, and to better the lives of people living with dementia. We invite you to join us in this by making one of your New Year’s Resolutions something that helps people living with dementia. Whether it be volunteering at the Alzheimer Society, a local nursing home or special care home. Or possibly by promising to offer help to a neighbour, family member or friend. This could be as simple as offering a drive to appointments or to the grocery store, or simply offering to lend an ear.

To those who already work so hard in either the professional or personal lives (or both!) to make the world a better place for dementia, we thank you! We look forward to see what positive changes we can make as a global community in this up coming year.

Person Centred Universe Team

As 2019, and an entire decade comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the small business we began almost 7 years ago. From big aspirations, big dreams and a strong will to change the face of dementia care and support for those living with dementia, Person Centred Universe was born. Throughout this decade, we've spent more time in coffee shops building business plans, in living rooms on Saturdays planning our upcoming year, and late nights hosting clients, friends and trusted advisors, helping us steer the path of our small business. Over the years since beginning the business, we've truly learned the meaning of building a business, bootstrapping, and getting our name and our brand out there to not only build our business, but so that we can help those living with dementia and their care partners live well, and live inclusively in their communities and within care settings.

As we get ready to ring in the new decade, I am humble. Our business has grown exponentially over the past three years. We are able to lead incredibly passionate and skilled women from a variety of backgrounds who contribute so significantly to our business growth and development. Daphne and I, as co-founders, have personally and professionally developed significantly through these years, and this year has been no different. We have built relationships far beyond our Atlantic Canadian roots, yet we have the opportunity to contribute in many ways to the growth and development of our incredible province. We are providing services far beyond the reach that we had expected, we're speaking with people and sitting at tables we hadn't expected to sit at, and we're changing the lived experience of those with dementia one meeting, one pitch, and one collaboration at a time.

We are skilling up care providers from a variety of demographics - and giving them to the tools to be successful in providing great dementia care. We are cultivating leaders in a variety of healthcare settings, and supporting inclusive environments and businesses in our communities.

To every single company, not-for-profit, partner, client, advisor and friend that we've made along this wonderful, sometimes scary, journey of entrepreneurship, we want to thank you. We want to thank you for believing in us, for investing in us, for giving us advice, a listening ear, and a confidant.

We can't wait to share with you all what 2020 has in store!
